The Beatles Also Invaded The Bahamas

Beatlemania is back! Yesterday marked the 50th anniversary of the band’s first appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” when the Fab Four took the country by storm and skyrocketed their global appeal. This milestone is reigniting buzz about their journey as they swept the globe on a tour that eventually earned them the title as best-selling band of all time.

While you probably know their songs by heart, what you may not know is that their international travels took them to Nassau, Bahamas, right on the famed Cable Beach.  What is now the Balmoral Tower at Sandals Royal Bahmaian, was once the posh Balmoral Club that hosted a number of VIPs in its heyday including the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and the Beatles in 1965 while they were filming scenes for their movie HELP!  They even shot scenes on Sandals Island, the resort’s private island, including the famous sequence for “Another Girl.”

CNN recently rounded up “10 places to relive Beatlemania” and included Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort & Offshore Island as part of their Bahamas jaunt:

8. The Bahamas

Another double-hit destination for Lennon, who flew here with Yoko on the next stage of his bed tour, but swiftly left after checking into the Sheraton hotel in Freeport (now unlisted), reportedly declaring: "We can't do a bloody bed-in here. Let's go to Canada."

More successful was Lennon's 1965 visit to the islands with the other Beatles, again to film scenes for "Help!" The band stayed at the Balmoral Club, a hotel on Nassau's Cable Beach now renamed the Sandals Royal Bahamian.
