Sandals Resorts Announces Winner of Bahamas Great Exuma Classic
After an action-packed weeklong tournament at beautiful Sandals Emerald Bay, Sandals Resorts and Web.com are excited to announce Sungjae Im as the winner of the 2018 Bahamas Great Exuma Classic. Sungjae Im became the 16th player in Web.com Tour history to win in his first start as the Tour kicked off their 29th season. Im, 19, carded a final-round bogey-free 7-under-par 65 to end the week 13-under-par. With a 72-hole total of 275, the South Korea native won by four strokes over Carlos Ortiz, who birdied the 72nd hole to breakout of a five-way tie for second place.
The tournament, held in conjunction with the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and BD Global, LLC., took place from January 10-16, and featured many exciting highlights, including the PRO-AM golf round played by the golf legend Greg “Great White Shark” Norman himself. Adam Stewart, CEO of Sandals Resorts, also attended the tournament and joined the Golf Channel for a live interview to discuss the importance of golf at Sandals Resorts and future innovations with the sport.
During their stay at the Sandals Emerald Bay, the PGA Tour golfers partook in various Island Routes excursions, including swimming with the famous Exuma Pigs in the turquoise blue waters surrounding the resort. They also joined Island Routes’ voluntourism efforts, in partnership with the Sandals Foundation, by participating on a reading road trip at Roker’s Point Primary School. The reading road trips bring Sandals guests to local elementary schools, where they read stories to 5-7 year olds, helping to improve their listening and comprehension schools, and providing new books for the school’s library.
This is the second year in a row that Sandals Emerald Bay has successfully hosted the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic. Truly a golfer’s paradise, the resort boasts 249 rooms and suites among 500 tropical acres with a mile-long white sand beach. Voted the Caribbean’s Best Golf Hotel, Sandals Emerald Bay located in Great Exuma, Bahamas, features not only a Greg Norman-designed 18-hole golf course, but also a world-class 150-slip marina, two freshwater pools, 11 5-Star Global Gourmet dining options, unlimited land and water sports, and a lavish 29,000 sq. ft. Red Lane® Spa.
Founded, owned and operated by the PGA TOUR, the Web.com Tour, now in its 29th year, continues to identify those players who are ready to compete and win on golf's biggest stage as proven with the success of the 2017 Bahamas Great Exuma Classic winner, Kyle Thompson, and now the 2018 winner, Sungjae Im.
